Mango Wood: One of Our Favorite Wood Species for Furniture

Mango wood is one of our favorite wood species for furniture. The wood is beautiful, with a rich grain quality that makes it perfect for rustic furniture. Mango wood is also sustainable, making it one of the most environmentally friendly options for furniture. And most importantly, mango wood is incredibly strong and durable, holding up against abuse and aging dynamically, with tons of character.

So where does this beautiful wood species get its name? Yes, you guessed right, this is the same tree that produces the noble and delicious tropical mango fruit. Mango trees are native to South Asia, and they're believed to have been cultivated for over 4000 years. Mango wood is derived from the mango tree's trunk and branches, with the trunk portion able to get quite large, yielding the potential for some pretty spectacular solid wood pieces.

It's no wonder that this wood is so popular, given its beautiful grain quality and strength. We're drawn to that mango wood flavor in our furniture because of that reddy-orange hue, the rich grain patterns, and that charm that you can spot a mile away as pure mango.
Mango trees are also one of the more sustainable wood providers - they grow quickly and don't require much water or fertilizer to thrive. This means they can be replanted faster after harvesting. And of course, the tree works double duty in providing mango fruit for the world for years before it's time to harvest for wood.
Mangoes are considered a "superfruit," and despite being so delicious, they actually pack a pretty powerful nutritional punch. And here's a weird aside... did you know that mangoes are part of the same family as cashews and pistachios? That's right - Mangifera indica is in the Anacardiaceae family. There's some nutty mango trivia for ya.
All in all, we love using mango wood in our furniture because it has such a warm, rustic look. The rich grain patterns add character and beauty to any piece of furniture. And because mango wood is so strong and durable, it's perfect for furniture that will see a lot of use. I've got to admit, when furniture hunting, I keep my eye out for that instantly recognizable marble grain. Maybe I'm biased, but I'm more likely to pull the trigger on a new piece of furniture when it's built from this beautiful, sustainable wooden wonder.
